TIGER

by Modar Neznanich

Tiger, tiger,

I see your eyes

Shining out of the foliage

Of the jungle.

What is it you seek?

Are you looking for prey

When you stare my way,

Or merely trying to understand

The strangeness of the people

Who have invaded your land?

The natives cry of you,

It is the Beast of the Night,

The Eater of Children;

But do you more than

Defend what is yours?

They hunt you

To protect themselves,

Or so they say.

Where will you go,

Where will you stay

If they drive you away?

Tiger, tiger

I fear

Your end

Is near.
