You will need:

Large can of pear halves (drained)

Partially crush:

10-12 whole cloves

5 peppercorns

2 grains of whole allspice

2 broken up bay leaves

1 stick of cinnamon

In a pot combine 2/3 cup of water, 1/3 cup of 6% vinegar (white wine), the above spices and 3 tbsp of sugar, bring to boil then simmer covered on low heat for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand at room temperature until cool to touch. Drain large can of pear halves and put in serving bowl, cover with strained marinade, seal with plastic and refrigerate 2-3 hours. When ready to serve drain off marinade.
